Our mission is to reestablish the Cosmos as a community driven club through sports, culture and entertainment activities while promoting tourism and economic development in Paterson, NJ.
The Cosmos aim to develop best-in-class professional soccer teams that create opportunities for boys and girls in North Jersey, along with an immersive and exciting experience for fans at Hinchliffe Stadium. We believe in the power of sport to revitalize, to gather, and to project local pride across a national stage.
No region of the country is richer in soccer history, heritage and tradition than Northern New Jersey, and now the world’s game is returning to its Garden State roots with the relaunch of the New York Cosmos in the urban heart of Passaic County.
Once the home of Negro League baseball teams, Paterson’s venerable and refurbished Hinchliffe Stadium now anchors a $110 million development and revitalization initiative featuring soccer at its center.
The Cosmos men’s and women’s teams will be part of the United Soccer League, a growing group of fully professional, semi-pro and amateur/youth circuits that already is the largest of its kind in North America.
Launched in the 1980s and now spanning the continent, the USL offers Paterson and the North Jersey region a perfect platform. USL soccer is competitive, and it’s a well-respected part of the sport’s international ecosystem. But it remains accessible and locally focused. Through men’s and women’s soccer at Hinchliffe, New Jersians can gather to support and celebrate their community, while simultaneously projecting their pride and passion across the country.
Creating a Community Club
Professional men’s soccer team playing in USL League One. A professional women’s team is projected to start in 2028.
Through partnerships with local coaches, schools and organizations, the Cosmos will host clinics, combines, and seasonal camps designed to grow the game and expand access to high-quality instruction.
Despite the sport’s popularity in New Jersey, urban youth lack access. We intend to bridge this gap by establishing introductory camps and clinics with the long-term goal of launching our own competitive youth club.
An after-school program designed for players under the age of 16. The club longer term goal is to create youth teams to compete in local leagues.
Featuring professional speed, agility and strength training coaches to help athletes develop. We will also host beginner clinics for local kids.
Created in partnership with the New Jersey Chess Club (NJCC). Designed to expand access to high-quality chess instruction and competition.
Hinchliffe Stadium blends the old and new. Esports offer another way for North Jersey youth to join our club.
Hinchliffe is a unique and historic gathering place where art and creativity thrive. In 2026, we will debut a World Cup exhibition featuring commissioned works honoring Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto. Included in the exhibit will be local high school artists competing for a scholarship.
North Jersey is a dynamic and diverse region with sounds and influences from across the globe. Melding those influences in our game day entertainment is part of our community initiatives and we will be introducing music programs in the near future.
